Grabill Takes Four Golds: Reed Grabill of the Lawrence Aquahawks won four events and teammate Bailey Carlson three at the Frosty Frolic B-C swim meet at Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center. Zach Andregg was a double winner while Jessica Boyer, Katie Sloan, Mariah Finley and Krissey Van Anne won one event apiece.

  • Free State Clinic: Free State High will stage at Holiday Basketball Clinic on Jan. 3. Sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon. The clinic is open to youths in kindergarten through the seventh grade. For a registration form, call Rhonda Malcolm at 841-6242.

  • Aquahawks Qualify: Several Lawrence Aquahawks earned AA national standard times at the Midwest Winter Classic swim meet in Wichita. They were Emma Reaney, Morgan Flannigan, Heather Clark, Erin Eifler, Chase Torgerson, Marcy Vickers, Megan Little, Melissa Little, Becca Glass, Rory Ezell and Caitlyn Gallagher. Reaney swam her first-ever AAA time and won the 100 butterfly in the U-10 division.

  • Flames Take Tourney Title: Sport 2 Sport Sixth Grade Flames won the Winter Kickoff girls basketball tournament in Hesston. Team members from Lawrence are Taylor Bird, Taylor Manning, Cassie Potter, Maggie Hull and Rosie Hull. Also on the team are Emily Huerter of Lecompton, Bailey Scott and Haley Epperson from Eudora and Tracie Weege and Clare Miles from Baldwin. Coaches are Troy Bird and Danny Manning.

  • LABA Needs Coaches: Lawrence Amateur Baseball Association is looking for coaches for its American Legion-Breakfast Optimists high school-age youth teams for next summer. If you’re interested, call Ron Goodwin at 843-4662.

  • Fourth-Placers: Allyson Frydman and Ellen Hernly of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy both earned fourth place in the all-around in Level 5 competition at the Emerald City Winter Challenge.

  • Rasmussen Takes Gold: Rachel Rasmussen of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won a gold medal in the Level 4 all-around in a meet last Saturday at Diamond’s Gym. Silver medals went to Abby Bays and Maiko Kitaoka. Drue Davis and Jacqueline Zaitz earned fourth places.

  • Humphrey Gold Medalist: Bryant Humphrey of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won the all-around in Class 6 at the St. Nick Classic. Teammate Scott Bregman finished fourth in Class 2 at the meet.

  • Three KVSA Champs: Kaw Valley Soccer Association teams won three Winter League championships in Lenexa. Champs were the U-11 boys and the U-14 boys and girls. Meanwhile, the U-12 girls and U-13 boys finished second.
