Father charged in death of 3-month-old daughter

Child is second to die while alone with suspect

? A Lee’s Summit man has been accused of suffocating his 3-month-old daughter.

Geoffrey P. Duvall, 22, was charged Saturday with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Megan N. Duvall.

When police found Megan Friday, she was not breathing and had no pulse. Duvall was alone with the girl at the family’s home when officers arrived after receiving a 911 call.

According to court documents, Duvall told police he laid the baby on a couch and put a pillow over her face after she became “fussy.” Duvall said he then left the room for two or three hours while he “played a game.”

The girl’s mother, Juliet Iantorno, was working when she was notified about the death. According to court records, Duvall told her: “It happened again. … I’m sorry I killed her.”

The couple’s 8-month-old daughter Katelynn Annmarie Duvall died in March 2001 while alone with her father. Authorities ruled that death accidental because of sudden infant death syndrome, said Al Iantorno, Juliet’s father and the baby’s grandfather.

“I read the report and I accepted it,” Al Iantorno said.

He said the family was devastated by Megan’s death.

“We do not comprehend what has happened. My daughter was so attached to this child.”
