Calvary Temple Assembly of God

A Children's Christmas Program will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th Terrace.

The Christmas play "The Innkeeper" will be performed at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. This will include adults, children and the choir.

Centenary United Methodist

More than 250 nativity sets from around the world are on display as part of the eighth annual Festival of Nativities at Centenary United Methodist Church, 245 N. Fourth St.

The event is free and open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. today and Sunday, as well as Dec. 21-22.

Central United Methodist

Central United Methodist Church, 1501 Mass., will present its children's Christmas program following the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The church's Christmas dinner and program is open to all.

Community Bible Church

The Community Bible Church Adult Choir will present Michael Card's "The Promise" at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 906 N. 1464 Road.

The Community Bible Church Children's Choir will present "Angels Aware" at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 22.

Both presentations are messages about the significance of Christ's birth. They are open to the community.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church

Evening prayer will be offered at 4:30 p.m. Sundays during the Advent season at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St. Evening prayer uses the Psalms and Scripture for God's praise and the offering of intercessions for the congregation and the world.

First United Methodist

The annual Advent Music Sunday will be held this weekend at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols will be presented at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services by the Chancel Choir, and the Celebration Ringers will sing some favorite carols. Seasonal music provided by the Mid-Morning Worship Team will enrich the 9:40 a.m. service.

The Caroling and Soup Party will start at 5 p.m. Sunday in the gathering area of the church. Participants will share the joy of singing carols at local retirement and nursing-care facilities, then return to First Methodist for soup and fellowship.

The church will offer a time of quiet reflection of the season between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday, including the serving of Communion and gentle organ music.

Good Shepherd Lutheran

The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Choir, under the direction of Jane Boberg, will present the Advent Cantata "The King Shall Come" during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. The Cantata includes original and traditional Advent music combined with readings reflecting the Advent story.

The Green Pastures Preschool, a ministry of the church, will present its Christmas program at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Lawrence Heights Christian

Lawrence Heights Christian Church, 2321 Peterson Road, will have its Christmas Cantata, entitled "Morning Star," at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. A Christmas potluck dinner will follow.

A two-part sermon on the topic "The Real Meaning of Christmas" will be delivered during worship services Dec. 22 and Dec. 29.

The church's Christmas Eve candlelight service will begin at 6 p.m. Dec. 24. Dress is casual.

Lawrence 1st Ward

Josh McCall will be the featured speaker during Sacrament services Sunday at the Lawrence 1st Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3615 W. 10th St.

McCall recently received his call to serve as a missionary for the church. He will serve for two years in the Russi Samara mission. His parents are Tim and Kathy McCall of Lawrence.

Plymouth Congregational

A traditional Christmas pageant will be performed during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

During the 11:15 a.m. Gathering of Grace service, the New Jerusalem congregation, which meets regularly at Plymouth Church, will present a Native American Christmas program.

There will also special activities for children during Sunday school.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church

The annual Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration will be held today at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky.

The celebration will begin at 9 a.m. with a Spanish Mass, followed by festivities in the church basement parish hall.

There will be Mexican hot chocolate, breads and cookies, as well as raffles and a bazaar table. Children will be invited to break a pinata. The St. John's Dancers will perform traditional dances.

The church asks that participants bring a non-perishable food item to place in a collection basket during the opening procession.

A meeting of the group Always Our Children will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday. For more information, call the church at 843-0109.

St. Margaret's Episcopal

The Rev. Darrel Proffitt continues his sermon series, "From Humbug to Hallelujah," at all Sunday services in preparation for a Christ-centered Christmas.

Advents Lessons and Carols will take place at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service. Carols will be led by a 30-member quality chorus with instruments.

Trinity Episcopal

Rite I Holy Eucharist is at 8 a.m. Sunday, followed by Rite II at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

The first performance of the Trinity Children's Christmas Pageant will be at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the nave.

Unity Church of Lawrence

Unity Church of Lawrence, 905 Madeline Lane, will celebrate a Christmas Music Morning during its 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday worship services.

Meditation and Storytelling Around the Tree will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

A Winter Solstice Concert will be at 7 p.m. Friday.

A Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be at Dec. 24.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

A spiritual celebration will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

A talk by Daniel Murphy, riverkeeper of Friends of the Kaw, will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Vinland United Methodist

A quiet scene depicting Joseph, Mary and Jesus, as well as shepherds and live animals, will be presented from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 21-23 in the exhibition building on the Vinland Fairgrounds.

The event, the 27th annual Vinland Living Nativity, is sponsored by the Vinland United Methodist Church.

The fairgrounds are located four miles north of Baldwin, one-fourth of a mile east of the intersection of county roads 1055 and 460.

West Side Presbyterian

The Christian Education Committee has planned a special Advent activity during the regular Sunday school hour, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., for the congregation of West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive.

The event, which will be held in the fellowship hall, will feature music, treats and a story on the Advent theme.

During worship services, the bell choir will present "Valet Will Ich Der Geben" with congregational participation.

Caroling to shut-ins of the church will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at West Side Presbyterian. Cocoa and cookies will be served at the conclusion of caroling at the home of Rick and Marci Stanwix, 2205 Brett Court.
