Yugoslavia: Dozen of people injured in explosion in Kosovo

A huge explosion late Friday ripped through the center of Kosovo’s capital, injuring more than 20 people, seven seriously, hospital officials and police said.

Witnesses at the scene and television stations said the explosion was caused by a car bomb, but the police said they did not yet know what caused it. Zeke Zekaj, a doctor on duty in the local hospital, said that seven of more than 20 people injured in the blast suffered serious injuries.

Kosovo has been administered by the United Nations since June 1999, when NATO’s air war forced former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic to relinquish his control over the province.

Atlanta: Bill would require trial before abortion – and death warrant

Even Georgia abortion opponents are criticizing a bill that would force women who want an abortion to go through a trial and have a judge sign a death warrant for an “execution.”

The bill, which has little chance of passage, would provide legal representation for the fetus and balance its rights with the rights of the woman before granting an abortion.

State Rep. Bobby Franklin, a Republican from suburban Atlanta, said he prefiled the bill last month in the House to recognize the rights of unborn children. The bill went unnoticed until recently, when lawmakers began preparing for the upcoming Jan. 13 start of the session.

“This is probably the most grotesque bill we’ve seen,” said Ebony Barley, a spokeswoman for the Georgia Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League. “This would increase the risk to women – they would seek to get an abortion illegally.”

California: 3 plead innocent in death of cross-dressing teen

Three men pleaded innocent Friday to beating and strangling a 17-year-old after learning the cross-dressing teen was a boy.

Eddie “Gwen” Araujo Jr.’s body was found in October buried in a shallow grave 150 miles east of San Francisco, according to police.

Police say he was killed Oct. 3 during a party at 23-year-old Jose Merel’s house in suburban San Francisco.

Merel and 22-year-olds Michael Magidson and Jason Cazares entered their innocent pleas to the murder charges during a brief court appearance.
