Light rain/snow mix in the forecast

If you’re going to be outside Thursday in the Lawrence area, you might get a little wet.

“You could need an umbrella this afternoon,” said Scott Whitmore, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

Whitmore said the forecast calls for a 40 percent chance of light rain.

“There’s a better chance if you go south of I-35, especially from Emporia on south,” he said.

The mix of rain and snow forecasters have been predicting could show up in the Lawrence area around midnight, he said.

“We’re not expecting any accumulation,” he said.

Besides the 40 percent chance for rain and snow, Thursday’s forecast calls for highs in the upper 40s, with southerly winds 10 to 15 mph. The overnight lows will be in the lower 30s.

If you’re tired of all the dreary weather, you’ll be pleased about the weekend’s forecast.

“It looks like clouds will be breaking up tomorrow,” Whitmore said. “It looks like an unseasonably warm weekend for mid-December. Temperatures will easily be in the 50s, and we could even see some 60s. It’s going to be a nice weekend.”
