Shockers up next for KU

? After a 5-25 record last season, Kansas University’s women’s basketball team is on the rise this season at 4-1. Wichita State, the Jayhawks’ opponent tonight, also is improving.

KU will face Wichita State, 4-2 after a 14-15 record last season, at Kansas Newman University’s O’Shaughnessy Hall at 7 tonight in Wichita.

Kansas has yet to play a Big 12 Conference foe, but Wichita State has faced two – Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. The Shockers lost to Oklahoma, 70-64, on Monday in Wichita, and defeated Oklahoma State, 76-66, on Nov. 26 in Stillwater, Okla.

Sophomore guard Aquanita Burras, who was named Big 12 newcomer of the week last week, leads Kansas with 15.2 points a game. Freshman center Tamara Ransburg leads the Big 12 with 9.8 rebounds and 4.2 blocked shots a game.

The Shockers are led by junior forward Carlesa Dixon, who averages 19 points and 8.8 rebounds an outing.

Kansas leads the all-time series 30-6 and has won the last three meetings, including an 82-66 victory last year in Allen Fieldhouse.
