Gasoline pipeline ruptured northeast of Lawrence

A 10-inch gasoline pipeline northeast of Lawrence was struck and ruptured about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Spokesmen for Williams Energy Partners LP, owners of the pipeline said there were no injuries or flames after the pipeline was broken by a construction excavator. The break occurred southwest of the intersection of E 1450 and N 1900 roads.

Kelly Swan, company spokesperson, said the line leak was quickly contained and that the line will remain shut down while the company investigates the incident and makes repairs.

Emergency personnel from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Douglas County SheriffâÂÂs Office and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical went to the scene, where spewing gas was visible to passersby.
