Life sciences firm to bring 40 jobs to Lawrence

An Atlanta-based life sciences company announced Tuesday it plans to build a manufacturing plant in Lawrence that will bring 40 new high tech jobs to the community.

Serologicals Corp. has selected Lawrence as the site for its new EX-CYTE manufacturing facility.
The company made the announcement Tuesday afternoon at the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce offices.

David A. Dodd, president and chief executive officer of Serologicals, said the project will bring about 40 new jobs, paying an average of $47,000 per year.

The company plans to build a $28 million facility on a 12-acre site at the city’s East Hills Business Park on Kansas Highway 10, Dodd said.

The company is expecting to take 15 to 18 months to build the facility, with completion expected in the first half of 2004.

Serologicals products and technologies are used in a wide variety of innovative applications, including cancer research, hematology, immunology cardiology and infectious diseases.

EX-CYTE is a leading serum-free cell culture supplement for use in the biotechnology industry and has seen significant growth in demand over the past several years, Dodd said.
