The Lawrence City Commission will consider a proposal from the Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau for a “Heritage Summit.”

Background

The summit, which would cost $15,000, would bring together roughly 40 community leaders to kick-start the process of creating a Lawrence-centered “Bleeding Kansas” national heritage area.

Bid and purchase items

  • Set bid date of Jan. 21 for storm sewer improvements on Kentucky Street to Barker Court.
  • Set bid date of Dec. 17 for street, storm sewer and waterline improvements on Overland Drive and Wakarusa drives to Queens Road.
  • Set bid date of Dec. 17 for street, storm sewer and waterline improvements to Congressional Drive, Sixth Street to Overland Drive.
  • Amend city code to require subdivision plats within the city of Lawrence to include all contiguous land under the same ownership.

Adopt the following ordinances on second and final reading:

  • Rezoning 3 acres from agricultural to residential duplex district, located 170 feet north of Riverridge Road fronting Iowa Street, effective Jan. 1.
  • Removing the bus loading zone on Elm Street adjacent to Woodlawn School and establishing the zone 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. school days along the east side of Fifth Street from Elm Street south 190 feet.
  • Establishing a 40 mph speed limit on Queens Road from Sixth Street north to the city limits.
  • Establishing no parking along the north and east sides of Stoneback Drive.
  • Removing the handicapped parking Zone at 634 R.I.
  • Adopt resolution declaring 245 Ill. environmentally blighted and ordering the property owner to remove the blight within 20 days of said resolution. Failure for this to occur will result in the city abating violations and charging the owner for expenses incurred.
  • Authorize the city manager to enter into a contract with GLPMA for $53,000 for Lawrence Carnegie Library stabilization project.
