Cold blast and snow flurries coming to Lawrence

If youâÂÂve got an outdoor activity planned, Monday wonâÂÂt be a bad day for it. But a big chill is headed toward Lawrence starting Tuesday, with a chance of snow flurries Wednesday.

“It’s a pretty good cold snap coming our way,” said Matt Maken, 6News meteorologist. “It’s gonna be kind of a shock.”

Makens is predicting partly sunny skies on Monday, with highs 50 to 53 and west winds 10 to 15 mph, becoming northerly. Monday night will be cold and mostly cloudy, with lows around 15 and northeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

“Lawrence, ironically, is nine out of 10 times colder than Topeka or Kansas City,” Makens said.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy and colder, with highs in the lower 30s. And Tuesday nightâÂÂs temperatures will fall into the lower 20s.

“Between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, I would be surprised to see any kind of a snow shower. I would expect a few flakes, but the air is too dry for any big snow,” Makens said.

WednesdayâÂÂs temperatures will be even colder, with cloudy skies and a chance of snow flurries, with highs around 27. Wednesday night will be cloudy, with lows 15 to 20.

Partly sunny skies are expected on Thursday, with highs in the lower 30s. And Thursday nightâÂÂs skies will be partly cloudy, with the overnight low falling to 15-20.

Thursday through Sunday will be a little warmer, with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s.
