Guy E. Monroe

? Graveside services for Guy E. Monroe, 99, Ottawa, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Mr. Monroe died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Village Manor Care Center, Ottawa.

He was born Nov. 1, 1903, in Ottawa, the son of Edwin S. and Hallie (Roberts) Monroe. He grew up in Ottawa and attended schools there.

Mr. Monroe worked for Carpenter Super Service for nine years, as well as Gas Service Co. from 1940 to 1942. He then transferred to Cities Service Gas Co., where he retired in 1968.

Mr. Monroe was also a dairy and beef farmer. During his retirement years he and his wife spent their winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ottawa for more than 75 years, a charter member of Friendship Sunday School Class and a former trustee on the Lincoln Township Board.

He married Lola Pearl Peffly on Feb. 21, 1923, in Ottawa. She died April 20, 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Marguerite Gibson, Ottawa.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home. Relatives and friends will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and proceed to the cemetery.
