Legislator takes insurance post

Topeka – State Rep. Bob Tomlinson of Roeland Park said he would resign from the Legislature to work as an assistant to newly elected Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger.

Tomlinson, a Republican, said he would resign around Jan. 13 when Praeger takes over as commissioner.

Praeger, a former state senator, was vice president and chairman of the Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance. In that committee position, she worked closely with Tomlinson, who has been a representative for 10 years.

For the past four years, Tomlinson, 45, has been chairman of the House Insurance Committee.

His successor will be selected at a 24th District convention attended by Republican precinct committee members.
