Native dancers to perform Christmas powwow

The New Dawn Native Dancers will have their second annual Christmas Dinner Dance at 1 p.m. Saturday at Haskell Indian Nations University’s Coffin Sports Complex.

The powwow event will include dancing competitions and an appearance by Santa.

The head singer will be 9-year-old John David Ballard from Miami, Okla. Evan Evans, 13, of Mayetta, will be the head man. He’s part of the Royal Valley Dance group out of Hoyt. The head lady will be Maggie Gray, Bartlesville, Okla.

There will be an evening break for dinner, and Santa will show up after that. The dance is free and open to the public. It will last until about 11 p.m.

Raven Bookstore to hold holiday booksigning

A holiday booksigning party for Kansas and regional authors will be from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at The Raven Bookstore, 8 E. Seventh St.

Guests will include: Barbara Brackman, “The Dog in the Picture,” co-authored with Jane Brackman; Grant Glenn, editor of “Forever Kansas!” photos and text from Kansas Magazine, formerly edited by his wife, Andrea; Lisa Grossman, Lawrence landscape painter, “Haskell-Baker Wetlands at Dusk,” an art print book; Stephen T. Johnson, “My Little Blue Robot” and “As the City Sleeps;” Craig Miner,”Kansas: A History of the Sunflower State;” and Mil Penner, “Section 27: A Century on a Family Farm.”

The event is free and open to the public.

Ceramics and prints to be sold at KU

The KU Ceramic Club and KU Print Clubs will hold their 2002 Holiday Sale from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday at Kansas University’s Art and Design Gallery.

Club participants include KU undergraduate and graduate students, alumni and visiting artists. Sculptural and functional ceramic work will be for sale. Print Clubs work will include etchings, woodcuts, linoleum prints, mixed media prints, digital prints, lithographs, silkscreens and monoprints.

The clubs will use a portion of the proceeds to build the endowed Ceramic Club Award Fund and a scholarship fund for the KU Print Clubs.
