‘What Are You?’ is topic of Unity services

The Rev. Sherry Schultz will ask the question “What Are You?” during 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday services at The Unity Church of Lawrence, Ninth Street and Madeline Lane.

Music will be provided by Dennis Mercer. On Sept. 8, Unity Church will have a Jewish Holy Day service, honoring Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.

International students to gather for luncheon

International students from Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship will have their monthly noon luncheon on Sunday at 315 Dakota.

The monthly meeting of the Women of Titus II will meet for Bible study, prayer and refreshments in the fellowship hall at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Baby-sitting will be provided.

St. Margaret’s to have baptism workshop

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St., will have a baptism workshop from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today.

New members will be celebrated and welcomed at the 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services. Kansas University students will be welcomed at the 5:30 p.m. service.

A parents’ meeting is set for 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the church.

New rector to preach at Trinity Episcopal

The Rev. Jonathon Jensen, the new rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., will be preaching and celebrating at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services on Sunday.

Jensen and his wife, Natalie, will be greeted by the congregation following both services.

Fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders will meet for Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. in classroom I. Classes for pre-school through third grade (Godly Play and Godly Play +) are invited to gather for “A Giggle and a Snack,” at 9:30 a.m. in their classrooms downstairs. Regular class time for Godly Play is 10:30 a.m.

Handbell Choir rehearsal is at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Plymouth to launch fall programs

Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., invites the public for a special Sunday on Sept. 8.

The church will start its fall programs, including the Sunday School program, “Rainbow Journey.”

Each classroom will have its own theme such as puppetry, cooking and computers.

West Side Presbyterian selects choral director

Amy Lukken, working toward a master’s in choral conducting at Kansas University, has been hired as the new choral/bell choir director at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive.

Rehearsals for bells are 7 p.m. Wednesday. Choral rehearsals are 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. for choral.

Lukken has a bachelor’s degree in music from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa, and has a background in directing and instrumental music in the Lutheran, Catholic and Episcopal churches.

Lawrence Heights church to begin Bible study

Lawrence Heights Christian Church, 2321 Peterson Road, will begin a verse-by-verse study of the Book of Revelation on Sunday.

A follow-up Bible study will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at 1708 W. 21st Terrace.

The church on Sunday will have a potluck dinner welcoming back Kansas University students. Missionary Janet Moreland will discuss her work in Brazil during the dinner.

St. John picnic slated for Sept. 7

St. John the Evangelist Parish, 1234 Ky., will have its annual parish picnic on Sept. 7.

Church ministries, service and activities will be highlighted during the picnic.

People interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and are interested in joining the church are invited to participate in inquiry sessions.

Salvation Army officer to give farewell sermon

Capt. Kirk Schuetz, commanding officer at the Salvation Army, has been reassigned and is being transferred to the Northland Corps in Kansas City, Mo. Capt. Schuetz will deliver his farewell sermon, “Out on the Limb Alone,” during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at the Salvation Army Church, 946 N.H.

First United Methodist to hold Taize worship

First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., will hold a Taize worship at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The service, held the first Wednesday of every month, is a time for meditation and reflection with music and silence.

The annual rummage sale is 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m.-11 a.m. Sept. 7 at Fellowship Hall.

Prairie worship services will be continued through the fall at 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays at the church’s west campus. Bring a lawn chair.

Calvary Temple pastor to lead study session

Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace, will hold Building Fund Sunday this weekend.

Pastor Marshall Lackrone will lead the study of the book of Revelation at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday nights at the church.
