Services to close for Labor Day

Government offices and public services in Lawrence and most area towns will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

All city, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the general services administration and the federal courts.

Banks and liquor stores will be closed.

Lawrence Bus Co. buses will not run.

The Lawrence Transit System will be closed Monday. Neither fixed route nor paratransit T buses will run.

City residents are asked to set out yard waste with their usual weekly trash as city crews will not pick it up Monday. Commercial collections will be conducted as scheduled Monday.

No adult sports programs are scheduled for the Labor Day weekend. Leagues will not play Friday through Monday.

Douglas County Senior Services will be closed Monday. All activities, including the Adult Day Program and the noon meal, will be canceled Monday at the Lawrence Senior Center. Meals will not be served at the following meal sites: Babcock Place, Edgewood Place, Lecompton, Eudora and Baldwin. Meals will not be delivered to homes, and Bus 62 services will be canceled.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday.

Kansas University classes will not be in session Monday. All campus offices will be closed. Most campus libraries will be closed Sunday and open from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday.

The post office won’t make regular deliveries Monday. Express mail deliveries will be made. Mail pickup from collection boxes won’t be made as posted on individual boxes.

All UPS operations will be closed Monday.

The Journal-World circulation office will be open for phone and walk-in business from 4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

USA Today won’t be delivered.
