Jeffrey Cravens, son of Thomas Cravens and Jean Dirks, was awarded the Eagle Scout Award at a court of honor Aug. 19 at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

He constructed two foot bridges and improved trails at the Prairie Park Nature Center in Lawrence for his Eagle Scout project.

As a member of Troop 53, he served as patrol leader and attended high adventure trips at Somer’s Canoe Base in Minnesota and Sea Base in the Florida Keys.

He will attend the University of Michigan this fall.

Zack Owen of Boy Scout Troop 59, chartered to the First Presbyterian Church, received his Runner Paint in the Order of Mic-O-Say during the Heart of America Council’s Rotary Camp for Disabled Scouts. It was awarded Aug. 9 at the closing campfire.

Zack served on the outpost camp staff for Rotary camp and worked one on one with a camper during the week of Aug. 5-9. Outpost campers and staff sleep in tents, participate in camp activities and cook some meals at their camp site. The closing night campfire is the only place outside Bartle Scout Reservation, where Mic-O-Say elevations can take place.

Victor Tuttle, affiliated with Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to the First Methodist Church, and Venture Crew 2691, chartered to the Wesleyan Church of Lawrence, was elevated in the tribe of Mic-O-Say to Tom-Tom Beater Aug. 7 at Camp Bartle.

Troop 55, chartered to the Westside Presbyterian Church, attended Boy Scout Summer Camp July 10-19 at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation.

Fifty-nine boys attended and earned 148 merit badges, one mile-swim patch and two snorkeling patches. Micah Clark, Jordan Gouge, Matt James and Keith Cowart advanced to Brave, and Andrew Avila advanced to Warrior in the tribe of Mic-O-Say.

New honorary warriors were Don Clancy and Tom Gore. Raquel McLean and Laurie Marienau of Troop 59 were honored. Deb Vannicola and Annelee Marsh served as camp scoutmasters.

The Boy and Girl Scouts of Douglas County would like to thank those who donated food, door prizes and other materials to last Saturday’s Scouting Extravaganza. Unfortunately, the Extravaganza was canceled because of lightning.
