KU soccer to open at SW Missouri State

Kansas University’s soccer team will play a preseason exhibition game at 7 p.m. Friday against Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Mo.

Coach Mark Francis has 14 letter-winners back from last year’s 13-7 team that finished fourth in the Big 12 Conference.

Monica Brothers, a sophomore from Leavenworth, is the top returning scorer. Brothers had nine goals and three assists in 2001. Rachel Gilfillan, another soph, had eight goals and two assists in ’01.

Also back is goalie Meghan Miller who had 71 saves and posted four shutouts as a freshman last fall.

The Jayhawks will open the regular season on Aug. 30 against Nevada-Las Vegas at SuperTarget Field.
