A Kansas University student was killed Monday night in a one-vehicle rollover accident on Kansas Highway 10 east of DeSoto.

Shauna L.H. Szymkowski, 21, Overland Park, was killed when her 1999 Mercury sport utility vehicle went out of control, hit the median and rolled over, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred about 9:10 p.m. near the Corliss Road overpass on K-10 east of DeSoto in Johnson County, according to state troopers.

Szymkowski was transported to Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., according to state troopers.

Szymkowski was a senior in education at KU and was enrolled for the fall semester, according to KU officials.

She was on the KU swim team during her freshman year. (See bio.)

She was a Blue Valley North High School graduate.
