— Calgary Cannons infielder Kevin Hooper went 1-for-5 Sunday to extend his hitting streak to 30 games, a franchise record and the longest streak in the minor leagues this season.

Hooper, a 5-foot-9, 155-pound Lawrence High and Wichita State product, also had a run and an RBI for the Florida Marlins' Triple-A affiliate in a 7-4 Pacific Coast League victory over the Portland Beavers.

Not only is the streak a club record, but also it's a PCL high in this millennium. Ben Petrick of Colorado Springs had a 23-game run in 2000 and, a year ago, Nashville's Adam Hyzdu reached 26.

Calgary manager Dean Treanor isn't surprised by Hooper's progress this season.

"I'll tell you what: I'd never, ever, count this guy out from being an every-day player up there," the Calgary manager said. "Nothing Hooper has done, or will do, surprises me any more."
