The Lawrence SuperTarget has chosen Lindsay Black, Lawrence, and Houston Cook-McCarter, Oskaloosa, as local recipients of the 2002 Target Take Charge of Education All-Around Scholarship. The 2002 high school graduates each received $1,000 to further their education.

Mike and Kerrie Bennett, Shawnee, announce the birth of their son, Cooper Wayne Bennett, July 24, 2002, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Paternal grandparents are Reba Bennett, Lawrence, and the late Larry W. Bennett. Maternal grandparents are Laurie and Gerry Walker, Lake Quivira.

Chris and Kim Taylor, Lawrence, announce the birth of their son, Joseph Christopher Taylor, June 11, 2002, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. He has a sister Olivia Taylor, 3.

Paternal grandparents are Cheryl Taylor and Bill Taylor. Maternal grandparents are R. Suzette Jackson and the late Joseph Jackson.

The descendants of John S. and Alice Oyler Dillon met for a family reunion Aug. 4 in the basement of Washington Creek Church.

A carry-in dinner was enjoyed by 101 family members and friends. Those present were from Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas.

The oldest member of the family who attended was Pearl Dillon, Overbrook. The youngest was 1-month-old Seth Wisdom, son of Jan and Keith Wisdom, Overland Park, and grandson of Doris Johnson, Lawrence.

The next reunion is planned for the first Sunday in August 2004 at Washington Creek Church.

Caitlin Boley, Lawrence, and 25 other volunteers left for the Marshall Islands where they have made a yearlong commitment to teach English in the country’s public elementary and secondary schools. She graduated in May 2002 from Smith College with a degree in anthropology. She is the daughter of Lisa and Stuart Boley.

Micah Clark, son of Helen Clark, Lawrence, attended Level 2 of the Future Astronaut Training Program at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson. The weeklong camp featured advanced simulator training.

Matthew Giarraputo, Eudora, is a new junior member of the American Angus Assn. Junior members of the association are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Assn., participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Assn. and take part in association-sponsored shows and other national and regional events.
