Fiber artists to show works at Art Walk

Baldwin The August Art Walk will feature fiber art with quilts displayed along the sidewalks of downtown Baldwin and in Quilters Paradise. Members of the Quilters Guild will be available to answer questions.

The event is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.

In addition to the quilts, several artists will display their work. Participating are Christy Carlisle, Sandy Cardens, Linda Everett, Phyllis Nelson, Rosemary Murphy, Kay McCune, Laura Morford, Robbie Lamoreux, Krista McClenahan and Cindy Novelo.

Several businesses will remain open during the walk.

Web site touts Kansas to filmmakers

Topeka The Kansas Film Commission has developed a new Web site to market Kansas as an attractive filming location.

When film producers access www.filmkansas.com, they will find a guide to filming a production in the state, including a list of available shooting locations, crews, talent agencies and equipment providers.

Last fiscal year, the commission helped 26 companies or individuals with projects filming in Kansas. Film-related expenditures add an average $10 million to the Kansas economy each year.

Lawrence artist picked for KC show

Kansas City, Mo. Hobart Jackson is the only Lawrence artist chosen for “2002 River Market Regional Exhibition, the Kansas City Artist’s Coalition 20th annual juried competition. Entrants were chosen from a six-state region.

Juror was Elizabeth A.T. Smith, chief curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.

The exhibit continues through Sept. 6 at the KCAC gallery, 201 Wyandotte. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Play festival to benefit E.M.U. alumna

E.M.U. Theatre is presenting “Back to the Egg,” a 10-minute play festival to benefit Amy McCarville.

“Back to the Egg” is the culmination of E.M.U.’s recent playwriting workshop. Ten original pieces, all written, directed and performed by local artists, will be presented as a new play festival.

McCarville, a Kansas University graduate and long-time E.M.U. theater member, is continuing her education at the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre in Blue Lake, Calif.

A preview performance will be at 9 p.m. Thursday at the Ecumenical Christian Ministries building, 1204 Oread. Tickets are $2.

Regular performances are at 8 p.m. Friday-Sunday at the old arts center, 200 W. Ninth. Admission is $5.
