Burglaries and thefts reported

Douglas County Sheriff’s officers are investigating the disappearance of jewelry and a Rolex watch with gold and diamond insets reported taken from a residence in the 1000 block of North 1750 Road. The items were taken sometime between June 18 and July 25, a 56-year-old woman told investigators. Losses were listed at $6,500. There were no signs of a break-in.

A 22-year-old Lawrence woman reported to police Tuesday that someone entered her residence in the 1600 block of Louisiana Street and broke into a metal safe. Taken from the safe were a $3,000 diamond ring and $385 in cash. The safe sustained $80 in damage. Entry to the residence was gained through a previously broken window, police said.

A 19-year-old woman woke up about 6:20 a.m. Tuesday and found a burglar in her residence in the 800 block of Michigan Street. The man fled. Police found a man at Sixth and Illinois streets who was similar to the description of the burglar. He was questioned and later released. No arrests were made. Police still are trying to determine how entry into the home was made.

The owner of Victory Sports Wear told Lawrence Police that someone took clothing between 8 a.m. May 10 and 5 p.m. July 18 from his store in the 700 block of East Ninth Street. The clothing was valued at $10,340.

Injury accidents

Two people were injured when their cars collided about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Kasold Drive and Clinton Parkway, Lawrence Police said. Amanda Ballard, 19, Eudora, and Christine Hayes, 31, Lawrence, were taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released. Police said Ballard was driving a 1991 Ford Tempo north on Kasold Drive and was turning west onto Clinton Parkway. Hayes, in a 1988 Buick Regal, was southbound on Kasold and entering the Clinton Parkway intersection when the collision occurred.
