Praeger declared winner in GOP insurance commissioner race

Jenkins holds lead in treasurer's race

State Sen. Lynn Jenkins edged closer Tuesday night to defeating Johnson County Treasurer Dennis Wilson in the battle over who will be the GOP candidate for state treasurer.

With 77 percent of the 3,378 precincts reporting, Jenkins, of Topeka, had 58 percent of the vote. Wilson, of Overland Park, had 42 percent.

The winner will face Democrat Sally Finney, of Olathe, in the Nov. 5 general election. She had no primary opponent.

In the GOP primary for insurance commissioner, state Sen. Sandy Praeger, of Lawrence, defeated her two challengers, Bryan Riley, of Wichita, and David Powell, of El Dorado.

Praeger had 58 percent of the vote, with 77 percent of the precincts counted. Riley had 24 percent and Powell had 18 percent.

Praeger faces House Minority Leader Jim Garner, D-Coffeyville, in November. He had no primary opposition.
