Lakeside: Regional leaders victorious

? Clint Bowyer, NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Presented by Dodge point leader for the Midwest Region, won his fourth in a row in the Modified division at Lakeside Speedway Friday night, August 2.

Making the haul from Emporia, Kan., Bowyer had to overcome a late race charge by Tom Charles, Bonner Springs, Kan., to bring his total to eight wins for the season. Starting 22nd, Charles noticeably had the fastest car on the dirt track, but unsuccessful negotiation of lapped traffic would keep him out of victory lane.

After toasting a motor last week, Kerry Davis continued his winning ways this week in the Grand National division in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Shortrack Series, where he is currently leading the nation in points. Despite zero testing time on a brand new power plant, the Kansas City, Mo., native built up a several-car-length advantage on his way to his twelfth win in 15 weeks.

Tim Billings, Gladstone, Mo., came away victorious in the Factory Stock feature – an event that posted only one caution. Attrition was the bane of many, as almost half of the field dropped out early with mechanical difficulties. Not so for Billings as he was able to pull away to a 100-yard advantage over the rest of the field.
