Martha and Mary's Way slates book exchange
The public is invited to attend the Martha and Mary's Way annual book exchange from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the home of Judy Long O'Neal, co-director of Martha and Mary's Way, 5010 Congressional Way.

St. John to celebrate Diego's canonization
Pope John Paul II declared Juan Diego a saint on July 31 in a solemn canonization ceremony at the Cathedral of four Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. St. John parish will celebrate the canonization of Juan Diego at the 8:30 a.m. liturgy Sunday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky.
The parish Guadalupe singers will lead the music ministry at that liturgy, which will be said in Spanish and English.

Kelley Hunt to perform at Unity Church

Rummage, bake sale to help outreach
Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H., will have a rummage and bake sale from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 7 a.m. to noon Aug. 10 in the church's Fellowship Hall, 1245 N.H. A variety of furniture, household goods, children's clothing, toys, exercise equipment and homemade baked goods will be for sale.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit various outreach projects of Trinity's Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the KU Strategic Learning Center, which is at the church.
Social Concerns of Trinity Lutheran Church will have a school supply collection to benefit New York School from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays throughout August at the church. A list of supplies is available at the church. The church also is collecting sweatpants, underwear, socks and new or used backpacks in good condition.

Witness Band slated at Heartland
Dwane Richardson and the Witness Band will provide music for the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services Sunday at Heartland Community Church, 619 Vt.
The Witness Band performs country gospel at churches, prisons, fairs and senior citizen communities across the Midwest.

All-Church Picnic features Faris Family
Food, fellowship and entertainment will be the featured attractions at the All-Church Picnic Sunday at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive.
Typical picnic fare will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall, and the Faris Family will entertain at 6:30 p.m. with a concert of bluegrass and gospel music. The Faris Family was nominated for the Contemporary Bluegrass Band of the Year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America.

Baptist Temple starts Bible course
Lawrence Baptist Temple, 3201 W. 31st St., is starting a videocassette-based Bible learning course on Saturday nights, beginning from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 17.
The course will focus on the Old Testament, New Testament and Baptist doctrine. There is a $10 application fee, and course materials will be provided.
No previous educational background in Bible studies is necessary to sign up for the course.
Those who are interested in learning about the program can attend the first class session on Aug. 17 at no charge and then may enroll by the second class.
