Senior services agency seeks help with prescription program

Agency: Douglas County Senior Services

Address: 745 Vt.

Contact Person: George Kinnard, 842-0543 or gkinnard@sunflower.com.

Douglas County Senior Services needs volunteers to assist the Prescription Drug Program.

People in the Prescription Drug Program help low-income Douglas County senior citizens with the process of assessing their prescribed medications at little or no cost.

Kinnard said about six volunteers are needed to contact identified seniors, to research potential patient assistance program coverage and to help seniors with paper work for assessing theses programs. Volunteers will also communicate with physicians’ offices and help with tracking and keeping records.

The volunteer schedule can be tailored to the availability of the volunteer. After training, volunteers can work from their home during the evenings or during the weekend. The number of hours is also adjustable based on the amount of time the volunteer has available.

A word processor and Internet access would be helpful to the volunteer, but not required. Applications are available through Kinnard.

Last week’s results

Health Care Access received calls from about five people who wanted to volunteer as clinic assistants and office assistants after the organization appeared in last week’s “How You Can Help.”

No more volunteers are needed at this time, said Loretta Fancher, a nurse at Health Care Access clinic.
