LHS rallies past SMN

? Lawrence High survived the five.

Despite allowing five runs on six soft hits during the fifth inning, the Lions fought back for their fourth straight win, a 7-5 Sunflower League baseball victory Tuesday at Shawnee Mission North.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, LHS (9-5) saw the Indians (3-6) score five times thanks to a couple sacrifice-bunt-turned-hits.

Trailing 5-3 heading into the sixth, the Lions took the lead for good, scoring three runs after loading the bases with no outs thanks to a pair of walks and an RBI single by Joe Bell.

“We’ve been struggling to score, struggling to hit the ball,” LHS coach David Petry said. “I told the guys they found a way to win it. It’s not a pretty victory, but they got the job done when it counted.”

The Lions will face Free State on Saturday at the FSHS field.
