Lawrence High soccer wins fourth straight

? Lawrence High’s girls soccer is still sizzling.

Sam Lopez’s goal in the 15th minute lifted the Lions to a 1-0 victory over Blue Valley Lawrence’s fourth win in a row on Monday at Blue Valley District Stadium.

LHS (6-4-1) has matched its win total from last season and is one victory shy of setting a school record.

“There’s no doubt we’ll get it,” said LHS coach Keith Nelson, whose squad has five games left in the regular season.

The Lions outshot winless Blue Valley, 17-2. The Tigers dropped to 0-10.

“We had a lot of chances to score,” Nelson said. “We felt real good about our attacking.”

Kara Roelofs provided the assist on Lopez’s goal.

Nelson cited defender Dyana Lawrence, defensive-midfielder Bess Chatman and center-midfielder Aly Barland for their play.

Goalie Shannon Fisher posted her sixth shutout of the season, including her fourth 1-0 decision.

Nelson said the Lions’ confidence is at an all-time high.

“They’re taking care of business,” Nelson said. “They have this feeling that if they show up they can win, which is kind of unusual for Lawrence High soccer.”

LHS will play host to Kansas City (Mo.) Pembroke at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Youth Sports Inc. fields.
