Kansas women’s tennis suffers first league loss

? Texas A&M ended Kansas University’s quest for an undefeated Big 12 tennis season with a 6-1 rout of the Jayhawks on Friday.

KU (15-4 overall, 9-1 in the Big 12) had won 12 consecutive matches dating to March 1.

“The 6-1 score really doesn’t show how close the match was and we need to get back to being more competitive in doubles,” KU coach Kilmeny Waterman said. “Today we felt some pressure from a good team and we played our matches really tight and lost. We know that having to play Texas in two days is going to be a challenge, but we have this loss behind us now and we know that there is nothing to lose versus higher ranked opponents.”

KU picked up its only point when Kim Lorenz defeated A&M’s Robyn Bassett, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 6 singles. The Aggies won two of three doubles matches to win the doubles point.

Kansas will travel to Austin, Texas, to face No. 11-ranked Texas on Sunday.
