IN 1902

On April 17, 1902, the Lawrence Journal observed, “There is always trouble on this earth. Some time ago we were all of the opinion that we could be happy if we did not have to spend all our time dodging sorchers on bicycles. But the bicycle went, and now we have the automobile scaring the life out of our horses and making life miserable for us. About the time the horses get accustomed to the machine we shall have air ships shooting around in the atmosphere, knocking down our chimneys and smashing in our silk hats.”
