Grant Dennis of UMKC and Shannon Mihaltan of Hastings College in Nebraska are the favorites to win the 2002 Kansas Relays decathlon and heptathlon, which begin today at Memorial Stadium.
Kansas has no multi-events athletes entered in the events, which will run from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. today.
Dennis, who is competing unattached, is UMKC's school record-holder at 7,413 points. Mihaltan has a personal-best score of 5,000.
Big 12 athletes entered in the decathlon: Casey Thom, Nebraska; Pat Pyle, Kansas State; and Dylan Schmidt, Kansas State. Conference competitors in the heptathlon: Chaundra Allard and Taylor Cates, Oklahoma.
