City to mark Earth Day with events Saturday

The city has a series of events planned Saturday to celebrate Earth Day.

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., has programs starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. Other activities at the center include mural painting, face painting, recycling toss and an environmental maze.

The Lawrence Transit System will enter a T bus in the Earth Day parade, which begins at 11 a.m. at South Park and travels up Massachusetts Street to Seventh Street, and ends in Buford M. Watson Jr. Park. At the park, there will be a celebration and information fair.

Household hazardous waste will be collected from 8 a.m. to noon at the Douglas County Public Works Yard, 711 E. 23rd St. Such products include paint and paint-related items, pest control products and household cleaners.
