Author to sign books Friday at The Raven

Kansas City author Joel Goldman will read and sign copies of his novel, “Motion To Kill,” Friday at The Raven Bookstore, 8 E. Seventh St. The event is from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“Motion to Kill” is a mystery about an attorney in Kansas City.

Antiques session focuses on lace

Samples of laces and the natural fabrics they are attached to, dating from the 1800s to the present, will be displayed and discussed at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass.

Angela Conrad, owner of My Father’s Daughter, is the presenter at this “Know Your Antiques” session.

Conrad will explain the history of lace, how it became popular, why it is still popular and how it evolved from a handcraft to a cottage industry and then into a manufactured item.

Attendees are encouraged to bring samples of lace and fabrics for help with identification. Although the session is free and open to the public, donations to the museum will be accepted.
