After several seasons in which the Winston Cup’s November finale at Atlanta was beset by bad weather, NASCAR has allowed the track to move the fall race to October in hopes of improving the race’s weather odds. Perhaps it’s time to use that same philosophy at Texas. Instead of haggling over whether it should get a second Cup date, the track should try to shuffle its current race to a date with a chance for a better forecast.

 The one-engine rule isn’t having quite the negative effect some in the Winston Cup series thought. Matt Kenseth is the perfect example. Twice in seven races so far this season, Kenseth’s team has had to start at the rear of the field because it changed engines. The result? He finished fourth at Atlanta and won this past week at Texas.
