Oregon State taps John

? Jay John, an assistant under Lute Olson at Arizona, was hired as Oregon State’s men’s basketball coach Tuesday and joins a team that has not had a winning season since 1990. John, who signed a five-year contract with Oregon State worth $225,000 a year, replaces Ritchie McKay, who was 22-37 in two seasons with the Beavers. McKay resigned last month to coach New Mexico. The 43-year-old John spent the past four years at Arizona and one season as assistant under Ernie Kent at Oregon.
