KU golf grabs 4th

Marshall finishes tied for second

? Kansas University junior Chris Marshall tied for second, matching his career-best finish, and KU’s men’s golf team placed fourth Tuesday in the 56th-annual Western Intercollegiate.

The Jayhawks needed 865 strokes to complete the three-day, 17-team event on the 6,445-yard, par-70 Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif.

The University of Washington won with a total of 834 strokes, followed by Fresno State with 854 and San Jose State at 856.

Marshall set a new career mark with a three-round score of 208, closing with a 70. Senior Travis Hurst tied for sixth at 211. Senior Casey Harbour shot 223, freshman Kevin Ward 231 and freshman Andrew Price 232.

Kansas will compete in The Intercollegiate 2002, hosted by the University of North Carolina and North Carolina State University, April 13-14 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
