Boston ? Kansas City Royals closer Roberto Hernandez will miss another three to four weeks because doctors are concerned that the inflamed tendon in his right elbow might be torn.

Hernandez will not throw at all for 10 days to two weeks, manager Tony Muser said before Tuesday night’s game against Boston. By the time he’s ready to return, it could be a month.

“They’re being cautious right now,” Hernandez said. “They just want to make sure everything’s OK.”

Hernandez was eligible to come off the disabled list on Saturday, and the team had planned to activate him on Tuesday. Muser said tests taken on Monday did not show a tear, but the inflammation had not improved.

Hernandez is scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews today.

Hernandez “doesn’t feel too bad, so I’m hoping it’s not a serious thing,” Muser said. “But I think the more information we get the better.”

The 37-year-old reliever, who had never been on the disabled list in a 10-year major league career, pitched twice on a rehab assignment with the team’s Triple-A affiliate in Omaha without trouble.
