Atty. Gen. Carla Stovall, the candidate of choice for the GOP’s moderate wing in the upcoming gubernatorial election, is reconsidering her candidacy, top Republican leaders said Tuesday.

“Carla Stovall is apparently reconsidering her decision to run for governor, and a few of us just got together this afternoon to talk about if that happened what would be the impact on the party,” GOP Party Chairman Mark Parkinson told the Journal-World as he exited a top-level meeting of party leaders at Cedar Crest, the governor’s mansion in Topeka.

Others at the meeting were former Kansas Senate Pres. Dick Bond, and House Speaker Kent Glasscock who is Stovall’s running mate.

Also present were Pat and Jack Ranson of Wichita. Pat Ranson is a former state senator. Jack Ranson, her husband, for many years served on the National Republican Committee.

Pat Ranson told the Journal-World that Stovall was expected to make an announcement next week about her intentions.

Stovall was traveling in the Ukraine and was unavailable for comment.
