Rose Owen Smith

She was born Oct. 3, 1908, in Burlington, Vt., the daughter of Robert A. and Ethel (Winter) Owen. She had lived in Lawrence since 1915.

Mrs. Smith worked for 17 years as a binder at Allen Press. She also had worked at Brinkman Bakery and Kress Five and Dime in Lawrence.

She was a member of Southside Church of Christ, Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Progressive Reading Club and the Lawrence Flower Club.

She married James R. Smith on Nov. 12, 1949, in Lawrence. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Charles R. Wood, Desert Springs, Calif., and Marvin E. Wood, Lenexa; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A son, Ralph MacDougall, died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Christian Family Services, sent in care of the mortuary.
