Washington job tempting, but coach to stay in Big 12

? After withdrawing from consideration for Washington’s basketball coaching vacancy, Quin Snyder said he expects to be at Missouri for “a long time.”

“This is my home. I love it here,” Snyder, who took the Tigers to the NCAA’s regional final during his third season, said Wednesday.

“I can see myself being here a long time,” added Snyder, 35.

Snyder, who hails from Mercer Island, a Seattle suburb, said he listened to Washington’s athletic director Barbara Hedges for “very personal reasons.”

Snyder’s parents live in Mercer Island and his parents and brothers attended Washington.

“It was a situation I needed to look at, for myself and for my family,” Snyder said. “This situation, to me, was unique.”

But in pondering his future at MU, Snyder said he concluded “it’s tough to leave something you believe in so much.”

Some MU fans were unhappy Snyder told a sports columnist he was making “no promises” about staying at Missouri after a season in which he was harshly criticized during his team’s midseason slump.

Asked what he would say to fans who question his loyalty, Snyder said, “I can’t control if people are upset about that.”

“It looks like I’m at Missouri, so that answers that,” he said.
