Col. Kermit M. Worley

Services for Col. Kermit M. Worley, 81, Lawrence, will be at a later date.

Mr. Worley died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Select Specialty Hospital at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. He had lived in Lawrence since 1976.

He was born June 2, 1920, in Lebo, the son of Cloyde S. and Hazel C. (Miller) Worley.

Mr. Worley was in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received the Legion of Merit Medal and had received seven Presidential Unit Citations. Mr. Worley retired at the rank of colonel in September 1975.

He was a member of Grace Methodist Church, Emporia, and the Masonic Lodge No. 12, Emporia.

He married Helen Holdredge on April 24, 1942, in Emporia. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Wheeler, Topeka, and Debra Tieger, Omaha, Neb.; two sons, Stephen, Lawrence, and Michael, Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Neal E., Ukiah, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
