Mr. Courtney died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in San Francisco. He had cancer.

He was born Oct. 6, 1939, in McLouth, the son of Charles E. and Gertrude L. (Coffman) Courtney. He had lived in Covelo for 30 years, moving there from McClouth. He was a 1957 graduate of McLouth High School.

Mr. Courtney owned and operated Courtney Construction Company in Covelo for 30 years. He was a member of Our Lady, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Covelo, and a long-time member of the Lion's Club.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 150th Airborne Division.

He married Rita J. Visocsky in 1960 in Leavenworth. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his mother, Gertrude L. Courtney, McLouth; two brothers, Robert Sr. and Charles, both of McLouth; two sisters, Shirley A. Breeden, Salinas, Calif., and Sharon L. Edmonds, McLouth.

A son, William Jr., died in 1962.

Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa, where the family will receive friends and the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice or to an organization of the donor's choice, sent in care of the funeral home.
