Ottawa, Washburn fall

— Sheldon Milton found Dustin Caram for a 46-yard touchdown pass as Friends scored all of its 21 points in the first half to defeat Ottawa, 21-9, Saturday.

The game was the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference season opener for both teams.

Friends' (1-0,1-0 KCAC) defense intercepted Ottawa quarterbacks four times and held the Braves scoreless until midway through the fourth quarter.

Ottawa (0-2,0-1) forced a safety, then Timon Marshall returned the following kickoff 59 yards for a touchdown.

Pittsburg State 51, Washburn 21

Pittsburg Neal Philpot and Anthony Chatmon had a hand in all seven Pittsburg State touchdowns as the Gorillas dismantled Washburn.

Philpot completed four of eight passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns, while adding two more scores and 126 yards on the ground. Chatmon rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns and passed for another.
