Hunt, Fish Day activities set Saturday at Elk City

In Kansas, several events are scheduled next Saturday in conjunction with National Hunting and Fishing Day.

At Elk City Reservoir, Card Creek campground will be the site of a variety of free demonstrations, displays, events, contests and hands-on activities.

Events include a kids fishing clinic, archery, BASS kids casting contest, pellet gun range, shotgun and muzzleloader shooting, live animal displays, bird dog training, antler scoring, taxidermy, game calling, and primitive camping and cooking demonstrations.

Registration and activities will begin at 7:30 a.m. Free buffalo burgers will be served at noon. Visitors are encouraged to register for door prizes donated by local sponsors.

Wildlife and Parks will also conduct Heritage Day on the evening of the Sept. 28 and all day Sept. 29 at the West Lake of Pleasanton.

Some of the activities planned are Old West Shootouts, Kid's Fishing Derby, 5K run, Bar B Que Cookoff Contest, Lazer Dot Shooting System, various booths for outdoor equipment and food booths.
