LHS football player of week

September 11, 2001

Ht.: 5-10. Wt.: 165.

Positions: Quartback/free safety.

The game: Scott compiled 103 yards total offense -- 53 passing and 50 rushing -- in the Lions' 28-21 victory over Shawnee Mission Northwest. He completed all four of his pass attempts, including a 15-yarder to Derek Bailey with 3:29 left in the fourth quarter for the game-winning touchdown.

Comment: "Rob really improved from the first week," LHS coach Dirk Wedd said. "He ran the football team closer to the way we wanted it run. He did a good job running the option. If we get some semblance of a passing game, that will really help our running game."

Honorable mention: Defensive end Richard Mumford (two sacks for minus-12 yards, including one that forced a fumble, and an interception); senior kickoff returner Chris Johnson (two returns for 117 yards); senior receiver Derek Bailey (game-winning TD reception); junior running back/linebacker Brandon McAnderson (two touchdown runs, two two-point conversion runs); linebacker Andy Flory (forced fumble); defensive linemen Kyle Coleman, Joe Bell and Xavier Thomas recovered fumbles.
