Jesse “Romie” Harrington

Mass of Christian Burial for Jesse "Romie" Harrington, 73, Manhattan, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Manhattan. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan.

Mr. Harrington died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at his home.

He was born July 23, 1928, in Purcell, Okla., the son of Romie Joseph and Alice (Justice) Harrington. After his father's death, he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Wendell Watson.

Mr. Harrington served in the National Guard from 1949 to 1950, then served active duty in Germany from 1951 to 1953. He then was in the active reserves until 1957. He had the rank of sergeant. He owned and operated Watson Transfer and Storage until his retirement in 1979.

He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and Manhattan American Legion.

He married Ann K. Burke on Sept. 25, 1953, in Manhattan. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Linda Duckworth, Manhattan; a son, John, Lawrence; a brother, James Watson, Manhattan; a stepbrother, Clyde Watson; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, where a Christian wake service will follow at 7 p.m.

The family suggests memorials to St. Thomas More Memorial Fund or Kansas State University Foundation for the Center for Basic Cancer Research, sent in care of the funeral home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan 66502.
