9/9EKHCS director to address Lawrence NAACP

Robert J. Malone, who took over as director and CEO July 30, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at Saint Luke A.M.E. Church, 900 N.Y.

Malone is responsible for operations at the Topeka and Leavenworth medical centers, as well as 13 community-based outpatient clinics.

Malone was associate director of finance for the Maryland Veterans Affairs Health Care System. He has a bachelor's degree in sociology from Miles College in Birmingham, Ala., and a master's degree in social work from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa.

EKHCS currently operates with an annual budget of approximately $140 million, and during the current fiscal year projects to employ more than 1,500 people.
