September 9, 2001

— Tonganoxie improved to 2-0 with a 22-8 Kaw Valley League football romp of Leavenworth Immaculata on Saturday.

THS and Immaculata played the first half on Friday. The second half was postponed until Saturday because of severe weather the night before.

"We've got to get a lot better," THS second-year coach Mark Elston said. "The teams in the future will be getting better. We have to cure mistakes. We're still pretty young. A lot of guys are still learning. For a lot of them, it's their second varsity game. We need to find a way to get the ball in the end zone."

THS quarterback Troy Morando found the end zone. He compiled 191 yards total offense 110 rushing yards on 16 carries and 81 passing yards and had two touchdown runs and a TD pass.

Defensively, the Chieftains limited the Raiders (0-2) to 73 yards.

"Our front four did a good job," Elston said.

Next for the Chieftains is a Friday contest against KC (Mo.) Pembroke at Tonganoxie.
