Hog farm worker charged

September 9, 2001

— Animal cruelty charges have been filed against a former worker at a Seaboard Farms Inc. hog farm, where an undercover animal-rights activist videotaped workers beating pigs with a hammer and a metal gate hook.

Texas County Dist. Atty. Donald Wood opened an investigation after receiving a copy of videotape from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Charged with four felony counts of animal cruelty was Alejo Pena, 29, of Guymon. His next court appearance is Oct. 4. He resigned from Seaboard prior to charges being filed.
