In July, Larry was all smiles when visiting nurse Vineta Belden, right, stopped by his home for her thrice-weekly visit to take his vital signs and dispense some humor. Jeanie Hime is holding her husband's arm.

Jeanie Hime spoke with her late husband Larry Hime in the bedroom of their west Lawrence home last June. Larry was diagnosed with ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease in 1998 and suffered a heart attack in 1999. Jeanie took leave from her job with Lawrence Memorial Hospital admissions to care for Larry since last September. Larry died August 4, 2001.
